Dario Amodei responds to the demands that Anthropic drop its safeguards against domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons (which a rational Department of Defense would not have demanded anyway).

I know I beat up on Anthropic for watering down their responsible scaling policy in the last post, but this is a big deal in a very positive way and they deserve credit for it. Now, just because a tech company does a positive thing, even a big positive thing, that doesn’t mean past missteps need to be forgotten, but praise is definitely due here.

Tech company leadership for responsibility and democracy has been thin on the ground lately, so this is incredibly heartening and refreshing.
